Chengdu, China, 27 January 2026 – Niccolo Chengdu partnered with Nikon Direct Store (Chengdu IFS) to present a Niccolo Lecture themed ‘Handcrafted Aesthetics Through the Lens’. As an extension of the brand philosophy, ‘New Encounters, Timeless Pleasures', the event utilised imagery as a medium to combine traditional Chinese intangible cultural heritage (ICH) with contemporary perspectives. This aesthetic dialogue, held in anticipation of the Chinese New Year, highlighted the timeless expression of exquisite craftsmanship through the lens.

The event commenced with a welcome speech by Mr. Robert Cousins, General Manager of Niccolo Chengdu. He expressed his sincere gratitude for this collaboration with Nikon, a world-renowned imaging brand, to jointly create an integrated platform that combines traditional aesthetics, contemporary craftsmanship and visual expression. This was not only an exploration of beauty but also a celebration of craftsmanship that transcends time, space and mediums.

Mr. Qiao Fengwei, a member of the China Photographers Association, shared practical tips on still life photography and explained how to best capture objects through the clever use of light and shadow. Ms. Yan Xujing, a recognised inheritor of the ICH – gold foil painting, eloquently recounted the historical background and significance of this craft in detail and guided the guests through the intricacies of this ancient art. Under Ms. Yan’s instruction, attendees had the opportunity to create their own gold foil paintings, experiencing the legacy of this ancient technique firsthand. 

Ms. Una Zhang Tingting, Head Pastry Chef of Niccolo Chengdu, further emphasised the aesthetic aspect of handcrafting. She highlighted the shared characteristics between handcrafted desserts and gold foil art, presenting creative refreshments inspired by gold foil as delectable, tangible and edible art pieces.

At the end of the event, guests raised their cameras one after another, capturing images of the gold foil paintings they had made themselves, preserving moments of inspiration and creativity through the lens.

This event was more than just a showcase of craftsmanship; it was a multi-sensory journey blending visual, tactile and gustatory elements, reflecting Niccolo’s enduring commitment to creating memorable experiences.
