At the event, fashion design students from Xiamen Nanyang University presented 35 Nyonya-inspired outfits that blended traditional charm with contemporary aesthetics. Through intricate embroidery, meticulous tailoring, and vibrant colour combinations, the designs vividly showcased the unique fusion of Chinese elements and Southeast Asian influences in Peranakan culture. The students incorporated traditional techniques such as bead embroidery, infusing the garments with rich historical depth and earning high praise from attendees.
Marco Polo Xiamen’s Executive Chef Richard Tan Hock Soon and his culinary team curated a special Nyonya-themed afternoon tea to enhance the cultural experience. Signature Peranakan delicacies such as Kuih Kadar, Nyonya Ondeh-Ondeh, and Bubur Cha Cha, paired with Southeast Asian beverages, offered guests an immersive journey into Nyonya culture through a feast for both the eyes and the palate.
Mr. Jean-Philippe Jacopin, the General Manager of Marco Polo Xiamen stated, "Our hotel is committed to promoting multiculturalism through cross-sector collaborations. This Nyonya cultural event, co-created with Xiamen Nanyang University, is not only a successful example of industry-academia integration but also a vivid celebration of China-Singapore cultural exchange. We look forward to partnering with more collaborators in the future to deliver richer and deeper cultural experiences for our guests."
